We also make catalytic grants in start-up entities to help them become investible projects. Such grants are important to support businesses whose goods, products or services fit within our areas of focus, but whose size, scalability and market potential are not yet at a level to warrant investment finance. While these grants will not necessarily produce a financial return, we have a first option should a project become investible. This will also increase the size and scope of our network of businesses with a social or environmental impact, as well as potential mentors. We are currently making 2 types of grants, one of which focuses on ideation stage businesses for entrepreneurs based in incubators across Africa, as well as a grant fund focused on entities that build pipelines of investable business deals across Africa.
