Tony Elumelu Foundation Receives Award of Excellence from the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The Tony Elumelu Foundation received the YouWIN! Connect Award of Excellence at the first edition of the YouWIN! Connect Enterprise Education Book and Awards, organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning (FMFBNP) in Abuja on Thursday, 26 September 2019.
This recognition was given in celebration of the foundation’s outstanding contribution to the Micro, Small and Medium Scale Entreprises (MSME) niche of the Nigerian private sector. The award was presented by Project Director, YouWiN! Connect, Dennis A.V. Chukwu under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Kyari Dikwa – Permanent Secretary of Finance (Special Duties), the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning (FMFBNP) who commended the foundation for its laudable initiatives which support African Youth saying that the foundation deserved the award for its enormous contribution, specifically through the “establishment and operation of a successful business that has transformed the lives of many Nigerians, especially Youth”.
The Partnerships Manager, Dewunmi Alugbin who attended the award ceremony which was created in acknowledgment of the significance of entrepreneurship as a tried and tested vehicle for achieving sustainable growth and development in Africa received the award on behalf of the foundation, its founder Mr. Tony O. Elumelu and the board of Trustees.
The Development Bank of Nigeria and Bank of Industry Nigeria were among the other organisations that received awards at the ceremony. As YouWin was rebranded to YouWin Connect, it changed from a business plan competition and grant-making programme to an online training programme leaving the Tony Elumelu Foundation as the only private or public entity committed to providing training, mentoring, start-up funding to the entrepreneurs at the base of the pyramid and truly democratizing luck and catalyzing economic growth and development.
