Ifeyinwa Ugochukwu discute de l'autonomisation des femmes au salon des perspectives mondiales
On Tuesday, November 24, 2020, TEF CEO, Ifeyinwa Ugochukwu joined a virtual panel organised by the Global Perspectives Initiative to discuss the important role of women empowerment in creating sustainable economic development.
At the event themed Strong Women – Strong Economies, she highlighted the Foundation’s role in empowering women: “The Foundation has been committed to empowering women from 2010 when we started. In 2015, when we launched the largest private sector-led entrepreneurship programme to empower, to train, fund and mentor 10,000 businesses across all 54 African countries, we committed to ensuring that we do not have female participation less than 30%. I’m glad to say that today, our female participation stands at 36% but we are working furiously to ensure it gets up to 50%.”
Ifeyinwa also stressed the importance of capacity building and funding to ensure that women businesses thrive on the African continent.
“Women are not only reliable entrepreneurs, she said, but they empower the family and their communities.”
She joined other speakers including Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Senior Economic Advisor AEDPI, Co-Founder of Transparency International; Heike Bergmann, Senior Vice President Sales Africa, Voith Hydro; and Silvana Koch-Mehrin, President and Founder of Women Political Leaders (WPL), former Member and Vice-President of the European Parliament in the panel moderated by Elisabeth Niejahr, Managing Director for the area “Strengthening Democracy”, Hertie Stiftung.
