Winning Wednesday with Runcie Chidebe
Our entrepreneur, Runcie Chidebe, Founder of Project Pink Blue, was among the eight young people below the age of 40 selected to attend the Young Leader at World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Istanbul. He was recently awarded with this prestigious global award based on my social enterprise and community work in cancer control in Nigeria.
In September 2015,Runcie received an email notifying him of his selection by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to be a recipient of the Young Leader award with an expense paid trip to World Cancer Leaders’ Summit (WCLS) in Istanbul, Turkey.
He attended the event- travelling to Turkey for the first time, and was recognised by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the largest cancer-fighting organization in the world with over 900 member organizations across 155 countries representing the world’s major cancer societies, ministries of health, research institutes, treatment centres and patient groups.
In his words, “I want use this opportunity to motivate young people in Africa; I want you all to understand that I never set out to attend World Cancer Leaders’ Summit, I was invited because of the work I do in my local community. I realized that you can never be globally relevant if you don’t activate local relevance.”
