African billionaire and philanthropist, Tony O. Elumelu, CON, Founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, has been recognised with the North East Entrepreneurship Leadership Award 2019 for his role in promoting entrepreneurship and supporting young people across the continent, including North Eastern Nigeria.
Tagged “Entrepreneurship, Media and Peace in the North East”, the event, which was organised by Borno-based foremost print and online publication, Yerwa Express News in celebration of their anniversary, was held on November 27, 2018 at the Merit Centre in Abuja.
The audience was also opportune to watch the Impact Film featuring the impact, innovation and creativity of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurs, a testament to how young African entrepreneurs are transforming their local communities.
The Tony Elumelu Foundation believes in the potential of African entrepreneurs to transform the continent and has expressed this conviction by investing $100million in their ideas and their businesses. This is Mr. Elumelu’s conviction; that empowering these entrepreneurs with seed capital, mentorship, training and the recently launched digital networking platform for African entrepreneurs, TEFConnect, will facilitate their businesses growth, and in turn, create more jobs. This is the transformation the Foundation has begun to witness across the African continent – Africapitalism at work.
In 2015, the Tony Elumelu Foundation launched the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, the US$100million flagship programme of the Foundation, identifying over a period of 10 years, 10,000 African startups and entrepreneurs with ideas that have the potential to transform the African continent. Now in its 4th year, the Foundation has empowered 4,470 African entrepreneurs across 54 countries. The Foundation’s goal is to invest in businesses that can generate at least 1,000,000 new jobs and contribute at least $10 billion in new annual revenues across Africa.
Applications for the 2019 cycle begin on January 1, 2019 on the digital networking platform for African entrepreneurs, TEFConnect: www.tefconnect.com.
